Hi, I have PO428 code showing as O2 sensor 1 bank1, removed and cleaned sensor but several weeks later engine management light is back on, does this mean I should replace sensor or there is a problem elsewhere?
Hi
I have never had this problem but i did find some info on google, hope it helps
The P0428 code on a Peugeot 308 indicates a high catalyst temperature sensor circuit issue in Bank 1, Sensor 1. This means the temperature sensor for the catalytic converter is sending a high signal, potentially due to a faulty sensor, a wiring problem, or a poor electrical connection. The catalytic converter is a crucial part of the emissions system, and a problem with its temperature sensor can affect its efficiency and overall emissions.
Here's a more detailed explanation:
P0428 Code Meaning:
The P0428 code specifically refers to the "Catalyst Temperature Sensor Circuit High (Bank 1, Sensor 1)". This means the engine control module (PCM) is receiving an incorrect signal from the temperature sensor located in the catalytic converter in Bank 1, which includes the first set of cylinders on the engine.
Symptoms:
The P0428 code can lead to various symptoms, including:
Reduced fuel efficiency
Poor engine performance
Increased emissions
Illumination of the check engine light
Possible Causes:
The P0428 code can be caused by a few factors:
Faulty Catalyst Temperature Sensor: The sensor itself may be malfunctioning and sending an incorrect high signal.
Wiring Issues: A shorted or open circuit in the sensor's wiring harness can cause the code to be set.
Poor Electrical Connections: Loose or corroded connections in the sensor's circuit can lead to an incorrect reading.
Engine Control Module (PCM) Fault: In rare cases, the PCM itself might be faulty and incorrectly interpreting the sensor's signal.
Troubleshooting:
To diagnose the P0428 code, you should:
Visually Inspect Wiring: Check the wiring harness for any damage, loose connections, or corrosion.
Check Sensor Resistance: Measure the resistance of the sensor using a multimeter to verify its functionality.
Check Voltage at Connector: Measure the voltage at the sensor connector to ensure proper power and ground connections.
Check for Exhaust Leaks: Exhaust leaks can sometimes trigger false codes, so inspect the exhaust system for any leaks.
Important Note: Diagnosing and fixing electrical problems, especially those related to engine control systems, requires some technical expertise. If you're not comfortable with these tasks, it's best to consult a qualified mechanic.
