Hi guys,

New to here but after some looking, feel like this is a good place to get some advice.

Back in April of this year I purchased a 3008 (needed a family car). Within 3 months I had gearbox issues but fortunately, within warranty & after breaking down, I ended up with a replacement clutch, flywheel & gearbox. I've now had the car running fine for another 3 months since the repair but last night, a multitude of errors appeared which has me more than a little concerned.

Flashing up, I have….

ABS braking system faulty
Parking Brake Faulty
ESP / ASR system faulty

and again....

Gearbox fault: Repair needed

At this point I'll add that it starts fine, the Parking brake does work, but the car puts itself into "manual" mode & I cannot go any higher than 3rd gear. It will cycle & drive through 1, 2 & 3, but won't let me go into 4th or higher.

I've just returned from my local Kwik Fit (I know, not the ideal starting point but the most local for me & actually, I have to admit they were kinda helpful). They hooked the computer up & wrote down 2 pages of errors! I'll quickly run through those....

Engine Control

P0266 - Correction Amount Cylinder 2 too low/high
P0269 - Same but Cylinder 3
P0263 - Same but Cylinder 1
U1213 - CAN communication with ABS/ESP control units value implausible

Start/Stop Control

Same errors as above

Central Electronics

4BE - Right brake light error detected (I've just checked & indeed, my brake light is out. I can fix that!)
5FF - Central electronics control unit internal fault

ABS/ESP

C1331 - Wheel speed sensor OSF - No signal
C1391 - CAN message ECU malfunction

Gearbox Control

CAN bus: ABS control unit message error

Wiper electronics

A further 3 unknown error codes.

The guy cleared them all but C1391 kept coming back. But I believe they're all back now as the 2 minute drive home saw the errors flashing up like a Christmas tree again. Obviously, at this time of year, my wallet is now shivering & I'm hoping to make a trip to the dealership a last resort.

There's been a lot of rain here recently & I'm just hoping that these Gremlins are down to some sort of poor connection somewhere, or a dodgy sensor or a pothole I hit affecting wiring somewhere. All these issues at once, I just can't believe I would have so many potentially major failures all at the same time - particularly the gearbox which is less than 3 months old!

Any advice, greatly appreciated.

Thanks in advance
Father of 3 at Christmas!

This is a very long shot, as you mentioned a failed brake light. I had a car a few years ago that threw up loads of fault codes. Replacing the brake lamp and everything went back to normal. It may not be the same with a Pug, but it's worth a try?

It's certainly on the list of things to try. You say a long shot, but some of the things I've read online, I wouldn't be surprised if this did fix it! I would also be slightly concerned!

Before going to the dealer I think it would be a good idea to purchase a OBD 2 Car fault Engine diagnostics plug , you can get one from Ebay and they are a reasonable price - you will be able to identify the problems before getting it repaired by a garage or the dealer - Hope this is of some help good luck.

Thanks, I'll look into it. But, and please forgive my naivety, but wouldn't this just show the same as what I already know from the info given by Kwik Fit? It's just a code reader, right? Is there something these OBD 2 readers can do that the diagnostic tools the garages use can't? Not ungrateful for your comments, I appreciate all & any assistance right now!

My french piece of crap (3008) had only gone 1000 km when it lit up like a christmas tree also. Breaks, steering, the lot just died. Fortunately my speed was low. After three months and several phonecalls later with the frogeaters, the symptomps was fixed without any root cause mentioned so now i am waiting for it to happen again. If it happens on the motorway this was my last post.
